New business success fuels expansion plans at TransMedia Link
Monday, April 21st, 2008After a record level of new business wins, TransMedia Link is celebrating its most successful year to date. With over a dozen new clients and a big break into the international market, the UK’s premier transcription company has exciting plans for further expansion over the next twelve months
Having acquired over twenty new clients this year including Government Departments, Utility companies and several from the Banking and Financial Services Sector, the team at TransMedia Link have also secured new contracts in the United States, supplying a portfolio of major organisations with annual review transcriptions and alternative format mailings.
Designed to coincide with the launch of the Disability Discrimination Act Part three, TransMedia Link was founded in 1999 and was the first commercial operation of its kind in the industry. In the early stages the business was funded entirely by the personal capital of the owner directors Susanne and Gordon Campbell before becoming self supporting in 2001.
Swiss-educated Susanne had previously been appointed CEO of a leading blind welfare charity in 1992 where she spent the subsequent seven years tirelessly turning around a loss making situation and providing the charity with a solid foundation, before deciding to tackle the commercial sector. A year later, Gordon Campbell joined Susanne at TransMedia Link after leaving his position as IT Director of a major FTSE 350 company.
“The requirements under the DDA legislation impact over 3.5 million public, private and service providers in the UK alone and my experience in the charity sector highlighted that so many disabled customers were, and still are, struggling to gain access to information in their preferred format, and in the quality they expect from mainstream organisations” explains Susanne Campbell, Chief Executive and founder of TransMedia Link.
“I am amazed at how far we have come since our first meeting eight years ago in a hotel lobby to discuss the possibility of starting TransMedia Link and the fact that we are still here is testament to the commitment and calibre of our team and to what we have to offer the industry” explains Susanne.
Recognising the need to introduce new blood, rising star Morrison Ellis was recruited to manage the day to day running of the business. Degree educated Morrison, who was recently promoted to General Manager, has both a professional and personal interest in the business after his father became totally blind and partially deaf in 2006 after a severe attack of meningitis.
In response to the growing demand for alternative format material, the company is rapidly expanding their offerings of easy read materials for people with learning difficulties, British Sign Language DVD and video and tactile diagrams and maps to provide a complete one stop solution for all organisations looking to comply with standard DDA requirements.
And after heavily investing in new printers and Braille machinery as well as completely refurbishing their studios, the Tunbridge Wells based operation is now investigating the possibility of expanding their current offices and may have to consider moving to larger premises as the business continues to grow.
“We are delighted with how the team have performed over the past year and the level and quality of our growing client base is evidence of their hard work and dedication to pushing the business forward. With Morrison’s growing strategic role in the business, we are extremely excited about the future plans for the company” says Susanne.
